Anytime is a great time in Ovando, Montana, but several times a year something wonderfully different happens. A special celebration is had, and everybody around Ovando turns up to participate.
The Old West Christmas Fest is an annual event that gets bigger and better each year. Mix handcrafted items, soul warming foods, and horse-drawn wagon rides, with cold winter days, a downtown filled with Christmas lights, and the smell of wood fires in the air; and you have Ovando's Old West Christmas Fest. It's held each year during the three days following Thanksgiving. Each afternoon brings about an old West Shoot out within the plaza by an ever increasing number of gun toting actors, and the daily visit of Cowboy Claus, who arrives on horseback down highway 200. The Old West Christmas Fest is every kid’s dream come true.
In late September the Lincoln Rod Run features Streets Rods, Muscle Cars, and Classic Cars running the roads from Lincoln, to Helmville to Ovando on a Poker Run. There are no entrance fees and trophies are issued. It's fun for the whole family and their four legged friends.
It seems like every town has a 4th of July Celebration. In Ovando we decorate the whole town in red, white and blue. Flags fly everywhere and the town's volunteer fire department spends all night cooking up a slab of beef, so tender you don't even need a knife.
